Eddie Murphey!!  Hah!  Looks like it wasn't just a pathetic rumor after all!
Well it turns out that the silly and ridiculous rumor that Eddie Murphy will be hosting the 2012 Academy Awards wasn't just a rumor... because it'sjust been confirmed!

Odd?  Just a little bit, considering how non-relevant this guy's been for some time now.

Brett Ratner, who will be producing the show, had this to say of Murphy hosting the awards show.

"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever.  With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances, especially on stage, I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February."

Eddie was once nominated for an Oscar himself for his role in 'Dreamgirls' (2006).
